Dynamic light scattering (DLS) is an analytical tool that is commonly used to determine the hydrodynamic size of nanoparticles and colloids in a liquid environment.

DLS instruments are easy to use, especially since no sample information, with the exception of its viscosity and refractive index is required before analysis.

Analysis is quick and repeatable. The size of particles in the sub-micron region can be easily determined by measuring the random changes in the intensity of light that is scattered from a suspension or solution.

The Nanotrac Wave is capable of measuring smaller particles of the size of up to 0.8nm in 15 to 30 seconds, and with higher accuracy. How is it special from other Dynamic Light Scattering instruments?

 

 

 

 

 

 

Technology:
The Nanotrac Wave is incorporated with patented Controlled Reference Method for advanced power spectrum analysis of Doppler shifts under Brownian Motion. The size distribution is directly proportion to the shifts measured. No complex correlation algorithms or decay times are required.

Low Concentration Samples:
The Nanotrac Wave offers Heterodyne detection while the DLS instruments of other manufacturers offer Homodyne detection only. Compared to Homodyne (single beam) detection, Heterodyne (double beam) detection increases the Signal-to-Noise ratio at the detector by 3 orders of magnitude, and is able to detect even very weak scattered light from low concentration samples.

Range Measurement: from 0.8 to 6500 nanometers. Zeta Potential from -200 to +200 mV

Measurement Angle: The angle of incident-to-scattered light is 180° (backscatter).

Repeatability: Better than 1% from instrument to instrument for 100nm polystyrene.

Concentration: Capable to measure up to 40% by solids in some cases. This feature reduces the need to dilute samples which may affect particle size or colloid stability.

Versatility: The Nanotrac Wave probe can be for external use in Dip-N-Run or in-line applications. Nanotrac Wave is also compatible with the Zetrator titration device.

Versatile selection of Sample Modules for Nanotrac Wave

Users can easily change from size measurement only to size and zeta potential measurement by changing to the relevant sample module. For users requiring temperature control there is also a module with a controlled Peltier device.

The sample is introduced to a removable teflon sample cell. The sample cell and probe tip can be sterilized for users in the biotechnology sector. Flow through cells are available for interfacing with the Microtrac Zetrator facilitating comprehensive forward and backward titration sequences for product stability applications.
